GigNeighbour Community & Safety Guidelines

Effective Date: September 2026

GigNeighbour is a local marketplace designed to help Calgary neighbours connect for everyday tasks and services. These Community & Safety Guidelines are intended to promote respectful, lawful, and safer interactions between task posters and independent service providers.

Everyone using GigNeighbour is expected to treat others respectfully, communicate honestly, use reasonable judgment, and follow applicable laws and GigNeighbour policies.

GigNeighbour provides a platform for users to connect but does not supervise, direct, or control how tasks are performed. Users remain responsible for evaluating each other, deciding whether to proceed with a task, and taking reasonable precautions before, during, and after a task.

1. Respectful and Professional Conduct

GigNeighbour users must treat one another with respect and communicate in a professional and courteous manner.

Users must not engage in harassment, bullying, intimidation, threats, discrimination, abusive behaviour, unwanted sexual conduct, or violence when using GigNeighbour or while arranging or completing a task.

Users should communicate clearly about the task, expected work, timing, location, and agreed payment before work begins.

If a user feels unsafe or uncomfortable, they should end the interaction when it is safe to do so and contact GigNeighbour if appropriate. For emergencies or immediate threats to personal safety, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency services.

2. Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination

GigNeighbour does not permit harassment, bullying, discrimination, or abusive behaviour between users.

Users must not engage in conduct that threatens, intimidates, humiliates, harasses, or unfairly targets another person. This includes unwanted sexual comments or advances, repeated unwanted contact, threatening language, offensive insults, or discriminatory behaviour.

Discrimination or harassment based on characteristics protected under applicable human rights laws, including race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, marital or family status, or physical or mental disability, is not permitted.

GigNeighbour may restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the platform when it reasonably believes a user has violated these standards.

3. Personal Safety

Users should use reasonable judgment and take appropriate precautions when arranging or completing tasks, particularly when meeting someone for the first time or entering a private home or property.

Before a task begins, users should confirm important details such as the task location, expected work, timing, agreed payment, and who will be present.

Users should not proceed with a task if they reasonably believe the situation is unsafe, unlawful, significantly different from what was described, or beyond their skills or qualifications.

Service providers should not perform work requiring a licence, certification, permit, specialized training, or safety equipment unless they meet the applicable requirements.

If there is an emergency, immediate danger, or threat of violence, users should leave the situation when safe to do so and contact 911 or the appropriate emergency services.

4. Home and Property Safety

Task posters should provide accurate information about the work area and disclose known conditions that could reasonably affect the safe completion of a task.

Service providers should review the work area before beginning and should not perform work they reasonably believe is unsafe, outside the agreed scope, or beyond their skills or qualifications.

Users should take reasonable precautions to protect people, pets, personal belongings, and property while a task is being completed.

Service providers should use appropriate tools, protective equipment, and safe work practices for the task being performed.

GigNeighbour does not inspect homes, properties, workplaces, tools, equipment, or task locations and cannot guarantee that a task environment is safe.

5. Tools, Equipment and Hazardous Conditions

Service providers are responsible for using tools and equipment that are appropriate for the task and that they know how to operate safely.

Users must not pressure or encourage another person to perform work that they reasonably believe is unsafe or beyond their skills, experience, qualifications, or available equipment.

Task posters should disclose known hazards that could affect the work, such as unsafe structures, exposed electrical hazards, hazardous materials, aggressive animals, or other significant risks.

Service providers should stop work if they discover a serious unexpected hazard and discuss the situation with the task poster before continuing.

Tasks involving hazardous materials, dangerous conditions, or specialized work must only be performed where permitted by law and by individuals with the appropriate training, qualifications, licences, and protective equipment.

6. Protecting Personal Information

Users should protect their own personal information and respect the privacy of others when arranging or completing tasks.

Do not publicly post sensitive information such as government identification numbers, banking or credit-card information, passwords, or other confidential information.

Task posters should avoid publishing their exact home address in publicly visible task descriptions. Specific location details should be shared only when reasonably necessary to arrange the task.

Users must not photograph, record, publish, or share another person’s private information, home, property, documents, or belongings without appropriate permission.

Information obtained through GigNeighbour should only be used for legitimate purposes related to the task or use of the platform.

7. Safe Communication and Task Arrangements

Users should communicate clearly and honestly about the task before work begins, including the scope of work, location, timing, expected duration, agreed labour price, and any materials or equipment required.

Do not send threatening, abusive, fraudulent, sexually inappropriate, or intentionally misleading messages through GigNeighbour or in connection with a GigNeighbour task.

Users should not pressure another person to accept additional work, change an agreed price, enter a location they are uncomfortable entering, or continue a task they reasonably believe is unsafe.

If the scope or price of a task changes, both parties should agree to the change before the additional or modified work is performed.

Users should keep relevant task-related communications and payment records where reasonably practical in case a disagreement arises.

8. Payment Safety

Task posters and service providers should agree on the labour price, payment method, and any reimbursement for materials or expenses before work begins.

Users should use caution when making or accepting payments and should keep reasonable records of payments related to a task.

Never provide another user with online banking passwords, PINs, credit-card security codes, or other account-access credentials.

Users should be cautious of requests involving unexpected advance payments, gift cards, cryptocurrency, money transfers to third parties, cheque deposits followed by refunds, or other unusual payment arrangements.

GigNeighbour does not currently collect, hold, transfer, or guarantee payments made directly between task posters and service providers.

9. Children, Older Adults and Vulnerable Persons

Tasks involving children, older adults, or other vulnerable persons require additional care and judgment.

Users must accurately describe the nature of the task and any responsibilities involving the care, supervision, transportation, or assistance of another person.

Service providers should only accept such tasks when they have the appropriate experience, qualifications, licences, certifications, or background checks required by law or reasonably appropriate for the work.

A task poster should independently evaluate whether a service provider is suitable for a task involving a vulnerable person. Information displayed on GigNeighbour should not be treated as a guarantee of a person’s suitability, background, or qualifications unless GigNeighbour expressly states that specific information has been independently verified.

GigNeighbour does not provide professional childcare, healthcare, nursing, medical, or emergency services.

10. Pets and Animals

Task posters must disclose when pets or other animals will be present at the task location if their presence could reasonably affect the service provider or completion of the task.

Task posters are responsible for appropriately securing or controlling animals during a task when necessary for safety.

Service providers should not accept animal-care tasks unless they are comfortable with the animals involved and have the skills and experience reasonably required for the task.

Any known aggressive behaviour, bite history, special handling requirements, or other significant safety concerns involving an animal should be disclosed before the task begins.

If either user reasonably believes an animal creates an unsafe situation, the task should not proceed until appropriate safety measures are in place.

11. Driving, Transportation and Deliveries

Users arranging tasks involving driving, transportation, pickup, or delivery should clearly agree on the task details, destination, timing, and any related expenses before the task begins.

Anyone operating a motor vehicle in connection with a task is responsible for having a valid driver’s licence, appropriate vehicle registration and insurance, and complying with applicable traffic and transportation laws.

Users must not request or agree to transport illegal, dangerous, prohibited, or undisclosed items.

Service providers should not operate a vehicle they reasonably believe is unsafe or perform transportation tasks beyond what they are legally permitted or insured to do.

GigNeighbour does not inspect vehicles or independently verify a user’s driving record, licence, registration, or vehicle insurance unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise.

12. Alcohol, Drugs and Impairment

Users must not perform or participate in a task while impaired in a way that could create a safety risk to themselves or others.

Illegal drugs or controlled substances must not be requested, supplied, transported, purchased, sold, or otherwise involved in a task.

Users must not ask another person to purchase or deliver age-restricted products unless the activity is lawful and specifically permitted by GigNeighbour.

Service providers should stop or decline a task if they reasonably believe impairment, illegal substances, or other substance-related circumstances make the situation unsafe or unlawful.

If a situation presents an immediate safety risk, users should leave when safe to do so and contact the appropriate emergency services if necessary.

13. Fraud, Scams and Misrepresentation

Users must provide accurate information and must not use GigNeighbour to deceive, defraud, impersonate, or mislead another person.

Users must not create fake task postings or service profiles, misrepresent their identity, experience, qualifications, licences, insurance, background-check status, or ability to perform a task.

Users should be cautious if someone asks them to send money before a task is properly agreed upon, purchase gift cards, deposit a cheque and return part of the money, transfer funds to an unrelated third party, or participate in another unusual financial arrangement.

Do not use GigNeighbour to obtain another person’s passwords, banking credentials, identification documents, or other sensitive information for fraudulent or unauthorized purposes.

Suspected scams, fraudulent activity, or serious misrepresentation should be reported to GigNeighbour.

14. Reporting Safety Concerns and Violations

Users should report serious safety concerns, suspected fraud, harassment, threats, prohibited activities, or other violations of these Guidelines to GigNeighbour.

When making a report, users should provide relevant information about the incident so GigNeighbour can reasonably review the concern.

GigNeighbour may review reports, request additional information, remove content, restrict platform features, or suspend or terminate accounts when reasonably necessary to protect users or enforce GigNeighbour policies.

GigNeighbour cannot provide emergency assistance. If someone is in immediate danger, if violence is occurring, or if urgent police, fire, or medical assistance is required, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency services.

Users must not knowingly submit false or malicious safety reports against another person.

15. Enforcement of These Guidelines

GigNeighbour may take action when it reasonably believes these Community & Safety Guidelines, the Terms of Service, or other GigNeighbour policies have been violated.

Depending on the circumstances, action may include removing a task or other content, issuing a warning, restricting access to certain platform features, suspending an account, or terminating access to GigNeighbour.

Serious conduct involving threats, violence, fraud, illegal activity, or significant safety risks may result in immediate account restriction or termination.

GigNeighbour may cooperate with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, or other appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law.

Enforcement decisions may consider the nature and seriousness of the reported conduct, available information, previous violations, and potential risks to users or the platform.

16. GigNeighbour’s Role in Safety

GigNeighbour provides a marketplace that helps task posters and independent service providers connect. GigNeighbour does not supervise users or control how tasks are performed.

These Guidelines are intended to promote safer interactions, but GigNeighbour cannot guarantee the identity, conduct, qualifications, reliability, or safety of any user or that any task will be completed safely.

Users are responsible for evaluating the people they choose to interact with, determining whether a task is appropriate for them, and taking reasonable precautions.

Any information regarding background checks, licences, certifications, insurance, or other credentials should not be considered independently verified by GigNeighbour unless GigNeighbour expressly states that specific information has been verified.

Nothing in these Guidelines replaces applicable laws, professional requirements, workplace safety requirements, or emergency services.

17. Changes to These Guidelines

GigNeighbour may update these Community & Safety Guidelines from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, services, safety practices, policies, or applicable legal requirements.

When changes are made, GigNeighbour will update the Effective Date at the top of these Guidelines.

For significant changes, GigNeighbour may provide additional notice through the website, email, or other reasonable means.

Users are responsible for following the version of these Guidelines that applies while they use GigNeighbour.
