GigNeighbour Payment, Fees & Refund Policy

Effective Date: September 2026

This Payment, Fees & Refund Policy explains the fees associated with using GigNeighbour and the responsibilities of task posters and independent service providers regarding payments.

GigNeighbour is a marketplace that connects people who need help with tasks with independent service providers. Unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise, payment for the actual task is arranged and made directly between the task poster and the service provider.

By registering for, accessing, or using GigNeighbour, you agree to this Policy and the applicable GigNeighbour Terms of Service.

1. Registration Fee

GigNeighbour charges a one-time registration fee of $14.99 to register to use the platform.

The registration fee applies to users registering to post tasks or offer services through GigNeighbour.

There is currently no monthly subscription fee.

The registration fee provides access to applicable GigNeighbour platform features. Payment of the registration fee does not guarantee that a task will receive responses, that a service provider will obtain work, or that any particular user will be selected for a task.

2. Task Poster Platform Fee

When a task is arranged through GigNeighbour, the task poster is charged a platform fee equal to 10% of the agreed labour price of the task.

For example, if the agreed labour price is $100, the applicable GigNeighbour platform fee is $10.

Unless otherwise stated, the platform fee is calculated on the agreed labour price and does not include separately agreed reimbursement for materials or other expenses.

The platform fee is charged to the task poster, not the service provider.

3. Service Provider Earnings

GigNeighbour does not currently deduct a commission from the service provider's agreed labour earnings.

Service providers therefore keep 100% of the labour amount agreed with the task poster, subject to any taxes, expenses, or other obligations for which the service provider is independently responsible.

Service providers are independent users of the marketplace and are responsible for determining their own rates and deciding which tasks they wish to accept.

4. Agreeing on the Task Price

Before work begins, the task poster and service provider should clearly agree on:

  • the scope of the task;

  • the labour price or hourly rate;

  • estimated hours, where applicable;

  • materials or supplies;

  • reimbursement of expenses;

  • timing and location; and

  • the method and timing of payment.

If the scope or price changes after work begins, both parties should agree to the change before additional or modified work is performed.

5. Payment Between Users

Unless GigNeighbour expressly introduces an integrated payment service, payment for work is made directly between the task poster and service provider using a payment method agreed between them.

GigNeighbour does not currently collect, hold, transfer, escrow, or guarantee the labour payment made between users.

Users are responsible for keeping appropriate records of payments and task-related expenses.

GigNeighbour is not responsible for cash, e-transfers, cheques, credit-card transactions, or other payments exchanged directly between users.

6. Materials and Additional Expenses

The task poster and service provider should agree in advance about who will purchase materials, supplies, parts, parking, transportation, disposal fees, or other task-related expenses.

Unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise, reimbursements for materials and other expenses are arrangements between the task poster and service provider.

Users should retain receipts where appropriate.

7. Registration Fee Refunds

Because the registration fee provides access to GigNeighbour's marketplace and platform features, the $14.99 registration fee is generally non-refundable once registration has been completed and platform access has been provided, except where required by applicable law or where GigNeighbour determines that a refund is appropriate.

Choosing not to use the platform, failing to obtain work, not receiving responses to a task, or deciding not to proceed with a task does not automatically entitle a user to a registration-fee refund.

If GigNeighbour offers a promotional or discounted registration fee, the terms of that promotion may also apply.

8. Platform Fee Refunds

Eligibility for a refund of a GigNeighbour platform fee will depend on the circumstances.

If a task is cancelled before work begins, duplicated, posted or charged in error, or affected by a technical problem attributable to GigNeighbour, the task poster may contact GigNeighbour to request review of the platform fee.

A refund is not automatically provided because users disagree about the quality, timing, scope, price, or completion of work performed independently between them.

GigNeighbour may consider available information and determine whether a platform-fee refund or credit is appropriate.

Nothing in this section limits any refund or other right that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

9. Cancellations Between Users

Task posters and service providers should notify one another as soon as reasonably possible if they need to cancel or reschedule a task.

Any payment, deposit, reimbursement, or cancellation arrangement made directly between users remains their responsibility unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise.

Repeated cancellations, misleading task postings, or misuse of the platform may result in restrictions on an account in accordance with GigNeighbour policies.

10. Payment Disputes Between Users

Task posters and service providers are encouraged to attempt to resolve ordinary payment disagreements directly and respectfully.

Users should retain relevant task descriptions, messages, agreed pricing, receipts, photographs where appropriate, and payment records.

GigNeighbour may review reports concerning misuse of the platform, fraud, or violations of its policies, but GigNeighbour is not a bank, payment processor, collection agency, arbitrator, or guarantor of payments made directly between users.

11. Fraudulent or Suspicious Payments

Users must not use GigNeighbour for fraudulent transactions, money laundering, unauthorized payment activity, cheque scams, gift-card schemes, or other unlawful financial activity.

Users should never provide another user with online banking passwords, PINs, credit-card security codes, or other account-access credentials.

Suspicious payment requests or suspected fraud should be reported to GigNeighbour.

12. Taxes

Users are responsible for determining and meeting their own tax obligations arising from their use of GigNeighbour.

Service providers are responsible for reporting income and collecting, remitting, or paying applicable taxes where required by law.

GigNeighbour does not provide tax, accounting, or financial advice to users.

13. Changes to Fees

GigNeighbour may change its registration fee, platform fee, promotions, or other charges in the future.

Any changes will apply prospectively as described on the website or in an updated version of this Policy.

GigNeighbour will not retroactively change a fee that a user has already paid unless required to correct an error or as otherwise permitted by law.

The current applicable fees will be displayed on GigNeighbour's website.

14. Promotions and Discounts

GigNeighbour may occasionally offer promotional registration fees, discounts, credits, or other special offers.

Promotions may be available for a limited time and may be subject to additional conditions.

The expiration of a promotion does not create an entitlement to receive the promotional price after the offer has ended.

15. Chargebacks and Payment Reversals

Users should contact GigNeighbour if they believe a fee charged directly by GigNeighbour was incorrect.

Fraudulent, abusive, or unjustified chargebacks relating to legitimate GigNeighbour fees may result in restriction or suspension of platform access, subject to applicable law.

This section does not prevent users from exercising legitimate rights available through their financial institution or applicable consumer-protection laws.

16. GigNeighbour's Role

GigNeighbour provides the marketplace through which task posters and independent service providers can connect.

Unless expressly stated otherwise, GigNeighbour is not a party to the payment agreement for the actual work performed between users and does not guarantee that a task poster will pay a service provider or that a service provider will complete work to a particular standard.

The task poster and service provider are responsible for agreeing upon and managing their task-related payments.

17. Changes to This Policy

GigNeighbour may update this Payment, Fees & Refund Policy from time to time to reflect changes to its services, fees, payment processes, or applicable legal requirements.

When changes are made, GigNeighbour will update the Effective Date at the top of this Policy.

For significant changes, GigNeighbour may provide additional notice through the website, email, or other reasonable means.
