GigNeighbour Service Provider Requirements Policy
Effective Date: September 2026
GigNeighbour is a local marketplace that connects people seeking help with independent service providers offering their skills and services. This Service Provider Requirements Policy explains the responsibilities of individuals who create service profiles, respond to tasks, or provide services through connections made using GigNeighbour.
Service providers are independent individuals or businesses and are responsible for determining whether they are legally and appropriately qualified to perform the services they offer.
1. General Service Provider Requirements
To offer services through GigNeighbour, a service provider must:
Be at least 18 years old.
Provide accurate and current information when creating and maintaining a service profile.
Accurately describe their skills, experience, services, availability, and qualifications.
Accept only tasks they reasonably believe they have the skills, experience, equipment, and ability to perform safely.
Follow applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.
Follow GigNeighbour’s Terms of Service and other applicable policies.
Service providers must not misrepresent their identity, experience, qualifications, licences, certifications, insurance, background-check status, or ability to perform a service.
2. Independent Service Providers
Service providers using GigNeighbour are independent providers and are not employees, agents, representatives, partners, or contractors of GigNeighbour.
GigNeighbour does not employ service providers, determine their working hours, supervise their work, provide their tools or equipment, or control the manner in which tasks are performed.
Service providers independently decide which tasks to pursue or accept and are responsible for arranging the details of the work with the task poster.
3. Licences, Certifications and Permits
Some services may require a licence, certification, permit, registration, specialized training, or other authorization under applicable laws or professional requirements.
Service providers are responsible for determining which requirements apply to the services they offer and for maintaining all required qualifications.
This may apply to certain electrical, plumbing, gas-fitting, construction, automotive, transportation, professional, personal-care, or other regulated services.
A service provider must not offer or perform regulated work unless legally permitted and appropriately qualified to do so.
4. Information About Qualifications
GigNeighbour may allow service providers to provide information concerning licences, certifications, permits, training, insurance, background checks, or other qualifications.
Service providers must ensure that information they submit is accurate, current, and belongs to them.
Where expiry dates apply, service providers are responsible for keeping their credentials current.
Providing credential information to GigNeighbour does not mean GigNeighbour has independently verified that information.
Unless GigNeighbour expressly identifies particular information as Verified, users should not assume that GigNeighbour has independently confirmed its authenticity, validity, or current status.
5. Verification and Profile Badges
GigNeighbour may introduce verification processes or profile indicators relating to identity, background checks, licences, certifications, insurance, or other credentials.
Where GigNeighbour expressly indicates that particular information has been verified, the verification applies only to the specific information and time period reviewed.
A verification badge or status does not constitute an endorsement, guarantee, recommendation, or warranty regarding a service provider’s competence, reliability, conduct, safety, or suitability for a particular task.
Task posters remain responsible for evaluating and selecting the service provider they choose to engage.
6. Insurance
Service providers are responsible for determining whether liability insurance, vehicle insurance, professional insurance, workers’ compensation coverage, or other insurance is legally required or appropriate for the services they provide.
Where insurance is required by law, a service provider must maintain the required coverage.
GigNeighbour may allow service providers to indicate whether they carry insurance or provide insurance-related information.
Unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise, GigNeighbour does not guarantee that a service provider has insurance or that any insurance policy will cover a particular task, incident, loss, injury, or claim.
7. Tools, Equipment and Materials
Service providers are responsible for having the tools, equipment, protective equipment, transportation, and materials reasonably necessary to safely perform an accepted task unless otherwise agreed with the task poster.
Service providers should only use tools and equipment that they are qualified and competent to operate.
Service providers must not perform work using equipment they reasonably believe is defective, inappropriate, or unsafe.
Responsibility for purchasing or reimbursing materials should be agreed upon between the service provider and task poster before expenses are incurred whenever reasonably practical.
8. Safe Performance of Tasks
Service providers are responsible for performing tasks with reasonable care and using safe work practices appropriate to the service being provided.
A service provider should not begin or continue work when they reasonably believe:
The work environment presents a serious safety risk.
The requested work is materially different from the task originally described.
The work requires qualifications they do not possess.
Required permits, licences, equipment, or safety measures are missing.
The task involves illegal or prohibited activity.
Their ability to perform the task safely is impaired.
Service providers may stop or decline work where they reasonably believe continuing would be unsafe or unlawful.
9. Background Checks
Certain services, particularly those involving access to homes, children, older adults, vulnerable persons, transportation, or other sensitive circumstances, may reasonably justify additional screening.
GigNeighbour may allow service providers to provide information concerning a criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, or other background screening where applicable.
Unless GigNeighbour expressly identifies a background check as independently verified, the presence of background-check information on a profile does not mean GigNeighbour has authenticated or approved it.
Background checks are not guarantees of a person’s present or future conduct, reliability, or suitability.
Additional requirements concerning background checks may be described in GigNeighbour’s Background Check Policy.
10. Services Involving Vulnerable Persons
Service providers considering tasks involving children, older adults, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable individuals should only accept such tasks when they possess the experience, qualifications, screening, and legal authorization reasonably appropriate or required for the work.
GigNeighbour does not provide professional childcare, healthcare, nursing, medical, emergency, or regulated caregiving services.
Users remain responsible for determining whether a particular service provider is appropriate for a task involving a vulnerable person.
11. Driving and Transportation
A service provider who operates a motor vehicle in connection with a task is responsible for maintaining:
A valid driver's licence appropriate for the vehicle being operated.
Legally required vehicle registration.
Appropriate automobile insurance.
Any additional licence, permit, authorization, or insurance required for the transportation activity.
Service providers must comply with applicable traffic and transportation laws and must not operate a vehicle they reasonably believe is unsafe.
Unless GigNeighbour expressly states otherwise, GigNeighbour does not inspect vehicles or independently verify driving records, licences, vehicle registration, or automobile insurance.
12. Professional Conduct
Service providers are expected to communicate respectfully and honestly with task posters.
Before beginning work, service providers should confirm important details including the scope of the task, location, timing, expected labour price, materials, expenses, and any significant conditions affecting the work.
Service providers must not engage in harassment, discrimination, threats, intimidation, fraud, abusive conduct, unwanted sexual behaviour, or other conduct prohibited by GigNeighbour policies.
13. Pricing and Payment
Service providers and task posters are responsible for agreeing on the labour price and payment arrangements for a task.
Service providers should clearly communicate any additional charges, material costs, travel expenses, or changes to the agreed scope before performing additional work.
Service providers must not use deceptive pricing practices or intentionally misrepresent expected costs.
GigNeighbour service providers currently keep 100% of the labour payment agreed with the task poster, subject to the applicable GigNeighbour policies and any future changes disclosed by the platform.
GigNeighbour’s registration and platform fees are described separately in the Payment, Fees & Refund Policy and on the Pricing page.
14. Taxes and Business Obligations
Service providers are responsible for determining and fulfilling their own tax, reporting, registration, licensing, business, and other legal obligations arising from the services they provide or income they earn.
GigNeighbour does not provide tax, accounting, legal, employment, or business-registration advice to service providers.
15. Accuracy and Updating of Service Profiles
Service providers are responsible for keeping their service-profile information reasonably accurate and current.
If a licence, certification, insurance policy, background check, permit, or other qualification expires, is suspended, is revoked, or is no longer valid, the service provider must not continue representing it as current.
GigNeighbour may request updated information where reasonably necessary to maintain platform integrity or administer a verification program.
16. Prohibited Conduct
Service providers must not:
Offer services they are legally prohibited or unqualified to perform.
Submit false licences, certifications, insurance documents, identification, or background-check information.
Misrepresent their identity or qualifications.
Use another person's credentials.
Perform illegal or prohibited tasks.
Attempt to obtain another user’s passwords, financial credentials, or sensitive personal information for unauthorized purposes.
Engage in fraud, theft, harassment, discrimination, violence, threats, or other serious misconduct.
Use GigNeighbour in a manner that violates applicable law or GigNeighbour policies.
Additional restrictions may be contained in GigNeighbour’s Prohibited Tasks & Services Policy.
17. GigNeighbour’s Role
GigNeighbour provides a marketplace that helps task posters and independent service providers find and connect with one another.
GigNeighbour does not supervise, direct, train, employ, or control service providers and does not determine how services are performed.
Unless GigNeighbour expressly states that particular information has been independently verified, GigNeighbour does not guarantee a service provider’s identity, experience, qualifications, licences, certifications, insurance, background-check status, competence, reliability, or suitability.
Task posters and service providers are responsible for evaluating one another and deciding whether to proceed with a task.
18. Failure to Meet These Requirements
GigNeighbour may review reports or information suggesting that a service provider has violated this Policy or other GigNeighbour policies.
Depending on the circumstances, GigNeighbour may remove or modify profile information, request additional information, remove a task or service listing, restrict platform features, suspend an account, or terminate access to GigNeighbour.
Serious fraud, falsification of credentials, illegal activity, threats, violence, or significant safety concerns may result in immediate restriction or termination.
GigNeighbour may cooperate with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, or other appropriate authorities where required or permitted by law.
19. Changes to This Policy
GigNeighbour may update this Service Provider Requirements Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, services, legal requirements, verification processes, or safety practices.
When changes are made, GigNeighbour will update the Effective Date at the top of this Policy.
For significant changes, GigNeighbour may provide additional notice through the website, email, or other reasonable means.
