3. How We Share Personal Information

GigNeighbour may share personal information only when reasonably necessary to operate the platform, provide requested services, or comply with legal requirements.

Information may be shared:

  • With other users: Certain information from task postings and service profiles may be visible to or shared with other GigNeighbour users so they can evaluate and arrange tasks.

4. Public Information and Information Shared Between Users

Some information you provide to GigNeighbour may be visible to other users or the public. This may include information contained in task postings and service profiles, such as your first name or display name, Calgary community or service area, services offered, experience, availability, expected rates, and other information you choose to include.

When users decide to connect regarding a task, additional contact or task-related information may be shared as reasonably necessary to arrange and complete the task.

Users should not include sensitive personal information—such as government identification numbers, financial account information, passwords, or other confidential information—in publicly visible task postings or service profiles.

GigNeighbour may limit or remove personal information from public areas of the platform when reasonably necessary to protect privacy, safety, or platform integrity.

5. Consent and Your Choices

GigNeighbour collects, uses, and shares personal information with your consent, except where otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.

Your consent may be provided when you create an account, submit a task, create a service profile, provide information through the website, or otherwise choose to use GigNeighbour’s services.

You may withdraw your consent to certain uses of your personal information, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide certain platform features or services to you.

You may also choose not to provide certain optional information. However, some information is necessary to create an account, post or respond to tasks, process applicable fees, or provide other GigNeighbour services.

6. How We Protect Personal Information

GigNeighbour uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or loss.

Access to personal information is limited to those who reasonably need it to operate, support, secure, or administer the platform.

GigNeighbour may use third-party technology and service providers to host, store, process, or protect information. We take reasonable steps to use service providers appropriate for the information and services involved.

However, no website, electronic transmission, or data-storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users are also responsible for protecting their account access, email accounts, passwords, and sign-in links.

7. How Long We Keep Personal Information

GigNeighbour retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and operate the platform, maintain accounts and transaction records, address complaints or disputes, protect the safety and integrity of the platform, and meet legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory requirements.

The length of time information is retained may vary depending on the type of information and the reason it was collected.

When personal information is no longer reasonably required, GigNeighbour will take reasonable steps to securely delete, destroy, or anonymize it, subject to any legal or legitimate business requirements that require continued retention.

Closing an account or service profile does not necessarily result in the immediate deletion of all associated information where GigNeighbour is required or permitted to retain certain records.

8. Accessing and Correcting Your Personal Information

You may request access to personal information GigNeighbour holds about you and may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete, subject to applicable legal exceptions.

Users may be able to update certain account or service-profile information directly through the platform. For information that cannot be updated directly, you may contact GigNeighbour for assistance.

GigNeighbour may take reasonable steps to verify your identity before providing access to personal information or making requested changes.

In some circumstances, GigNeighbour may be unable to provide access to certain information where access is restricted or not required under applicable law. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason for the restriction.

Some cookies or technologies may be provided by third-party services used to host, secure, analyze, or operate the GigNeighbour website.

Where required by applicable law, GigNeighbour will provide appropriate choices regarding non-essential cookies or similar technologies.

You can also control certain cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect the functionality of the website or your ability to use certain features.

10. Third-Party Service Providers

GigNeighbour uses third-party service providers to help operate and support the platform. These providers may perform services such as website hosting, database and data storage, authentication, email delivery, payment processing, analytics, security, and technical support.

These service providers may process personal information on GigNeighbour’s behalf only as reasonably necessary to provide their services, subject to their applicable privacy and security practices and our arrangements with them.

Some service providers may store or process information outside Alberta or outside Canada. As a result, personal information may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is processed or stored, including lawful access by government or regulatory authorities.

GigNeighbour takes reasonable steps when selecting service providers that handle personal information.

11. Childern's Privacy

GigNeighbour does not knowingly permit individuals under 18 to create accounts, post tasks, create service profiles, or independently use the platform.

If GigNeighbour becomes aware that personal information has been collected from an individual under 18 in connection with an unauthorized account, we may take reasonable steps to remove the information and close or restrict the account, subject to applicable legal requirements.

12. Privacy Breaches and Security Incidents

If GigNeighbour becomes aware of unauthorized access to, loss of, or disclosure of personal information, we will take reasonable steps to investigate and address the incident.

Where required by applicable privacy law, GigNeighbour will notify affected individuals and/or the appropriate privacy authority when a privacy breach creates a legally reportable risk of harm.

Users should promptly contact GigNeighbour if they believe their account, personal information, or communications through the platform have been compromised.

13. Your Privacy Rights and Complaints

You may contact GigNeighbour with questions or concerns about how your personal information is collected, used, disclosed, stored, or protected.

You may also request access to or correction of your personal information, or ask questions about withdrawing consent, subject to applicable legal requirements and exceptions.

If you are not satisfied with GigNeighbour’s response, you may have the right to contact the appropriate privacy authority, including the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, where applicable.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

GigNeighbour may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our platform, services, privacy practices, technology, or applicable legal requirements.

When changes are made, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this Privacy Policy.

If changes materially affect how we collect, use, or disclose personal information, GigNeighbour may provide additional notice through the website, email, or other reasonable means and obtain consent where required by applicable law.

We encourage users to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our privacy practices.
