GigNeighbour Cancellation & Dispute Policy

Effective Date: September 2026

GigNeighbour is a local marketplace that connects task posters with independent service providers. This Cancellation & Dispute Policy explains the responsibilities of users when a task is cancelled, rescheduled, changed, or results in a disagreement.

Because task arrangements and payment for the actual work are generally made directly between users, task posters and service providers are primarily responsible for communicating with each other and resolving task-related issues.

1. Cancelling a Task

Either the task poster or service provider may decide not to proceed with a task.

If a task must be cancelled, the cancelling user should notify the other person as soon as reasonably possible.

Users should avoid repeated last-minute cancellations or failing to appear for an agreed task without reasonable notice.

A cancellation does not automatically entitle either user to compensation from GigNeighbour.

2. Rescheduling a Task

Task posters and service providers may mutually agree to reschedule a task.

Before rescheduling, users should confirm the new date, time, location, scope of work, and any changes to the agreed labour price or expenses.

GigNeighbour is not responsible for losses or expenses resulting from scheduling changes arranged directly between users.

3. Changes to the Scope of Work

If the requested work changes after a service provider has expressed interest or accepted a task, both users should discuss the change before additional or different work is performed.

Changes involving the scope of work, labour price, materials, expenses, timing, or other significant conditions should be agreed upon by both parties.

A service provider is not required to perform additional work that was not reasonably included in the original task arrangement.

4. Changes to the Agreed Price

Task posters and service providers should agree on the labour price or hourly rate before work begins.

Neither party should unilaterally change the agreed labour price after the work has been performed.

If additional work or expenses become necessary, the users should agree on the additional amount before the additional work is performed whenever reasonably practical.

5. Cancellation Before Work Begins

If a task is cancelled before work begins, users are responsible for resolving any deposits, material purchases, travel expenses, or other amounts they arranged directly with one another.

GigNeighbour does not guarantee reimbursement for expenses resulting from a cancellation.

Any GigNeighbour platform-fee refund request will be handled according to the Payment, Fees & Refund Policy.

6. Cancellation After Work Has Begun

If a task is cancelled or stopped after work has begun, the task poster and service provider should attempt to agree on reasonable payment for work already performed and any authorized expenses already incurred.

GigNeighbour does not determine the monetary value of partially completed work between users.

Users should keep reasonable records of work performed, communications, agreed pricing, receipts, and payments.

7. No-Shows

A user who cannot attend an agreed task should notify the other user as soon as reasonably possible.

Repeated failure to attend agreed tasks without reasonable notice may be considered misuse of the platform.

GigNeighbour may restrict, suspend, or terminate accounts where repeated no-shows materially affect other users or platform integrity.

8. Disputes Between Users

Disagreements may arise concerning issues such as:

  • whether work was completed;

  • quality of work;

  • agreed pricing;

  • additional work;

  • materials or expenses;

  • property damage;

  • lateness or scheduling;

  • cancellation;

  • payment; or

  • conduct during a task.

Users should first attempt to resolve ordinary task-related disagreements directly, respectfully, and in good faith.

9. Keeping Records

Users are encouraged to keep reasonable records relating to their tasks, including:

  • the original task description;

  • relevant messages or communications;

  • agreed labour price;

  • changes to the task;

  • receipts for materials or expenses;

  • payment records; and

  • photographs of relevant work where appropriate and lawfully obtained.

These records may help users understand or resolve a disagreement.

10. Reporting a Dispute to GigNeighbour

Users may contact GigNeighbour when a dispute involves possible fraud, harassment, safety concerns, prohibited activity, misuse of the platform, or a potential violation of GigNeighbour policies.

When reporting a dispute, users should provide enough relevant information for GigNeighbour to reasonably review the concern.

GigNeighbour may request additional information from either user.

11. GigNeighbour's Role in Disputes

GigNeighbour may review information relating to a dispute for purposes such as enforcing platform policies, addressing safety concerns, considering a refund of a fee charged directly by GigNeighbour, or determining whether account restrictions are appropriate.

However, GigNeighbour is not a court, arbitrator, collection agency, insurer, or guarantor of either user's obligations.

GigNeighbour is not required to determine which user is legally responsible for a private dispute or to award compensation for work, property damage, personal injury, lost income, materials, or other losses.

12. Payment Disputes

Payments for the actual work are currently arranged directly between the task poster and service provider.

GigNeighbour does not currently collect, hold, escrow, transfer, or guarantee these payments.

If a task poster and service provider disagree about payment for work, they are responsible for attempting to resolve the issue directly and pursuing any legal remedies independently available to them where necessary.

Disputes involving fees charged directly by GigNeighbour are handled according to the Payment, Fees & Refund Policy.

13. Property Damage

Users should promptly communicate if property is damaged during a task.

The users involved are responsible for addressing claims relating to property damage between themselves and any applicable insurance providers.

GigNeighbour does not provide a guarantee or insurance program covering property damage unless GigNeighbour expressly introduces such a program and states its applicable terms.

14. Injury or Safety Incidents

If someone is injured during a task, users should first address immediate safety and medical needs.

For serious injuries, emergencies, immediate danger, fire, or threats of violence, contact 911 or the appropriate emergency services.

Safety incidents may also be reported to GigNeighbour where they involve use of the platform or potential violations of GigNeighbour policies.

GigNeighbour does not replace emergency services, insurers, regulatory authorities, or other appropriate authorities.

15. Harassment, Threats or Violence

Harassment, intimidation, threats, discrimination, unwanted sexual conduct, violence, or retaliation relating to a dispute is prohibited.

Users must not threaten another person in an attempt to obtain payment, a refund, favourable review, or other outcome.

Serious conduct concerns should be reported to GigNeighbour and, where appropriate, to law enforcement or other relevant authorities.

16. Reviews During a Dispute

Where GigNeighbour provides a review or rating feature, reviews should reflect a user's genuine experience.

Users must not use reviews to threaten, extort, retaliate against, or intentionally misrepresent another user.

GigNeighbour may remove reviews that violate the Terms of Service or other GigNeighbour policies.

17. Refunds of GigNeighbour Fees

Cancellation of a task does not automatically result in a refund of fees charged directly by GigNeighbour.

Registration-fee and platform-fee refund requests will be considered according to the GigNeighbour Payment, Fees & Refund Policy.

Nothing in this Policy limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

18. Account Action

GigNeighbour may take action when a cancellation, dispute, or reported incident indicates a potential violation of its policies.

Depending on the circumstances, GigNeighbour may issue a warning, remove content, restrict platform features, suspend an account, or terminate access to the platform.

Serious or repeated fraud, harassment, threats, violence, prohibited activities, falsification, or other significant misconduct may result in immediate account restriction or termination.

19. Legal Rights Between Users

Nothing in this Policy prevents a task poster or service provider from exercising legal rights or remedies independently available to them.

GigNeighbour does not provide legal representation or legal advice to users involved in disputes.

Users remain responsible for determining whether they wish to pursue an insurance claim, regulatory complaint, civil claim, or other available remedy.

20. Changes to This Policy

GigNeighbour may update this Cancellation & Dispute Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, services, policies, dispute processes, or applicable legal requirements.

When changes are made, GigNeighbour will update the Effective Date at the top of this Policy.

Significant changes may also be communicated through the website, email, or other reasonable means.
